Thats my thinking, as folks who like myself created their main chars way back when propercies intially came out, there was only a few hair styles/colours you could pick for your class back then. Since release we have had several new addons/campaigns come out, which have offered a lot more choice in hair styles and colourings. These should be made avalible to all folks so as can change thier hair to a diffrent style which was not avalible when the characters where created. Also should work the other way, folks who maybe aquired an earlier campaign after buying say NF and may want to change from Nightfall to a Prophercies/Factions hair style.

Another nice thing would be to be able to select a hair style from any of the classes. As my Ele would love longer hair, and the Deverish has a fantastic hair piece that would suit my Ele

And?
I expect most of those are PvPers who can just re-roll their characters anyway... and want to get the same feeling from their PvE characters. They want to ditch the char and have a different one without actually losing any of the achievements.
It is a cheap attitude that no RPG needs. Once you've determined your character's look a certain way... and optimised it as best the game is able.... you've made something to identify them by. It is what makes the difference between them being a character or just "a toon"... and completely remaking their appearance abuses that entire purpose.
That is the reason even why I refuse to TexMod my characters' faces.... even if I could make them look better. It is how I identify them.... much as with any person in the real world.

It's funny,
Even IF GW put this feature in, with the direction they're moving, I figure we'd have to grind for 'tailor points' in order to get anything done.

Characters have never been a huge deal to me. If I leave one for a few months the bond is pretty much gone, anyway. It's just an avatar - I'm the real character in my game.

History and titles? Bah! It's a Xunlai box full of stuff and gold, that makes me feel warm inside.

Perhaps in GW2 there could be a visible and unchangable player ID - you'd always know who you're talking to (even more than the current system) and there'd be no petty excuses for not allowing players to alter their characters at will.

His post seemed to be aimed directly towards changing the face, sex, etc. of the character. Not sure how he felt about hairstylists (which is something I approve of).

I could see the sex change being objected to, but I think as a whole, any character changes, body style, hair, face, etc are pretty harmless. I liken it to 'growing up/old'.

I really wanna see a PR Rep in here saying either Yay, or Nay to this. At least either quash our hope, or give us something to look forward to.

I'm in favor of the whole works here. Although I probably won't use the sex change npc. But i'll def use the hair, and tanning npc.

Comon Gaile! Yay or nay, please??

Then dont use that feature, DOH. And stop caring how other people you'd propably never meet play game. because in the end all it brings positives: you'd never notice them in pug or in outpost, and it in fact can make people play chars they unfavored because of look/name issue more. Which either fill party with one more guy with 8 above head or one more guy you can pug with.

People making "characters" for serious RP wont use it, otherwise they would kinda fail at that RPing of theirs.

People not attached to chars in sich ... disturbing ... way would propably just take it as convenience, because in the end, all it really would do is to save a lot of time.

---

Does it not bother you that you can change secodnary at whim? I.E. someone roleplaying death knight should be pretty angry about fact that pretty much everyone chan change to and from /N secodnary in seconds. Just imagine how much it takes away.

Or complete build? I am sure people rolepalying elementalists as x-maners of various elements should be pissed of about fact that someone can just change element at whim. I've heard about guy who made 4 eles, each for different element despite that. weird, eh. One would think that he would be totally crushed by fact that others can just change builds and not care about his RP mumbojumbo.

Point is, RPing and attachment to char is in your head, not in game features that you can, but dont have to use. Just like changing stuff like secondary is unlikely to change whatever bond you have with them, this aint either.

From my pen and paper roots, it was not unheard that you took GM aside and discussed some change of character background. Others either pretended it was always that way or some in-character thing happened to reveal it. Like the fact that you character used spell to change collor of his eyes ;p and now decided others in party can see hi reall eye color... or, this is pushing it but you get idea.

Imagine that some 15yr old AD&D people simply say "id like my char to be this hot chick" and others say "sure". How depressed must people who take it too seriously must be.

---

Btw: lil example of good roleplay:

Gabriella is istani girl, her village was often attacked by corsairs, and she soon learned to hide her feminine features to escape rape. When her 18th birthdays came, she was quite adept at playing male, and when she decided to join sunspears, she had simple choice: either be her girl-self and be looked down to, because equal is not always equal, ans there was always this fear of being harassed or be Gabriell, nondescript guy that attacts no problems and which others men leave alone, choice was simple. Some simple mesemr magic ale rought discuise to pretty good illusion. Several months after being recruited, some serious stuff happened and she had never break, playing guy role pretty much nonstop, she is sick of it and now that she entered stanger portal and ended up north, there is noone around who would be shocked about this relevation and she would be free to be herself again in this new land.

Yawn.

Seriously tho, hairstylists would be nice, anything above that would be a bonus

How about height changer? I made my Ele a few years back and I kind of wish I could make her shorter(she has default height). The other things I don't really care about. I guess hair would be okay. Sex change is just way too weird.

Great Idea for GW 2 but Doubt they will for GW. It would have to be linked to the logon screen select character and have these options Delete, Rename, and Redesign (oh I would be happy with those options)

Female characters shouldn't exist?
How on Earth did you glean a supposedly sexist comment from my original post? My primary character is a female! My jolly little paragraph was all about reinforcing the message that sex changes shouldn't be a part of the lore in Guild Wars or any other RPG with similar themes.

And as for your quip about characters having gender identity issues...you can't save the world if you can't decide whether you should wear your chainmail skirt or chainmail leggings. If you want some kind of bizarre journey into the surreal, I suggest you wait for a single player game of some sort, because it won't happen in online RPGs.

In a world overtly sensitive to everything imaginable, it's just not feasible that ArenaNet could do this whole sex change shebang without offending many, many people. And even if they could, how the hell are you going to explain a sex change operation in a world chock full of technology that peaks at catapults and iron weaponry?

Is is a magical transformation? A Harry Potteresque potion?

I think seeing this in any game without some serious investment in a character's personal life and emotional input would be either laugh or tear worthy. And oh yes, there's always the individual's imagination that can fill in the blanks while you're out mechanically slaying the same creatures in a forest but to be blunt:

That imagination is better spent in the real world.

And that is my final word, and final post, on the subject of this thread.

And why not? What makes changing sex such a bizarre proposition?

That's really rather insulting to real people who do suffer from such a disorder--you can live perfectly normal lives even if you know you were born into the wrong body.

Creating--and playing--a character with such a disorder would be a daunting task, to be sure, and it is rather unnecessary a detail for a game such as this, but I don't see why the option to change a character's sex is such a horrible and worthless idea.

Because magic certainly hasn't been established in the game as a plot vehicle already, no, of course not.

Roleplaying can't truly be done in the real world, no matter what any LARPer might tell you, so online is the only place I really get to stretch that particular facet of my imagination.

Pity, as you seem to generally know what you're talking about.

I'd love to be able to give some of my characters hairstyles from other continents: give my Canthan monk those classic buns from Prophecies, my Canthan ele that big ponytail from Nightfall (and in that cool sea green shade only available to Elonian eles), etc...
